Makeup 1989 - 2005 by Inge Grognard

Belgian-born makeup artist Inge Grognard began her career in the mid-80s working with designers like Dries Van Noten, Ann Demeulemeester, and other members of the Antwerp Six. Her new book, with a foreword by Oliver Zahm, chronicles selections of her formative work during the 1990s and early 2000s. Her approach aligning with the unconventional nature of Antwerp movements during that time as well as intentionally rejecting the glam looks of the 80s.

‘Inge Grognard, Makeup 1989—2005’, focuses on the formative works of her career; from her first days with Maison Martin Margiela through to contemporary Balenciaga with Demna Gvasalia.

“Gorgnard’s beauty revolution is essentially feminist. She uses makeup as an artistic gesture, an intimate revolt, one that allows each woman to reclaim her beauty, her inner turmoil, her hidden conflicts, her fragility and to reach beyond the masculine imperative of seduction” - OLIVER ZAHM
